WHAT TO EXPECT:
When a person calls our counseling center, he or she is connected with a receptionist that is caring, compassionate and aims to dispel any fears, uncertainty and doubts that they may have. Our goal is to schedule you with a counselor as quickly as possible as we understand that your needs are high priority.
At your first appointment we will take a copy of your insurance card (if applicable) and give you a few forms to fill out. This will aid us in determining your initial needs and goals for counseling. Caring staff will help you to understand your feelings, what treatment options are available and what to expect from our sessions. Also, you will be given answers about your insurance benefit coverage and payment arrangements.
Access Counseling welcomes the opportunity to serve you. Before beginning your work with us, we want to outline our policies and procedures as well as orient you to the services that we provide. We look forward to helping you achieve your goals.
It is the policy of Access Counseling to provide service to all eligible persons without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, height, weight, marital or familial status, disability, service in the uniformed services, or any other characteristic protected by law and without regard to sexual orientation.
We expect a responsible adult to accompany all minor children to the agency and to remain on site during their child’s appointment, if the child is under the age of 16 years. On occasion, a parent/guardian’s signature is needed at the appointment time. Children are not to be left in the waiting room unattended or brought into counseling sessions if the appointment is not for them.
FEES AND PAYMENT:
First visit is $40 to be paid in cash. After first visit, if using insurance, a determination of fee will be dependent on client’s deductible. For those not covered by insurance, a sliding scale is also available determined on family’s gross income and number of people living in household. No fee is charged for first visit with clients covered by Medicaid. Note: All payments are due at the time of service unless prior arrangements have been made. Also, see Payment for Services Section Below.
WE ACCEPT CASH, CHECKS AND MONEY ORDERS. WE OFFER A GENEROUS SLIDING SCALE FEE BASED ON INCOME TO THOSE WHO CHOOSE NOT TO USE OR DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE.
TERMINATION OF SERVICES:
You may terminate services with this agency at any time by contacting your counselor or reception.
The agency may terminate services with you for the following reasons:
• any act or threat of physical and/or verbal violence toward a member of our staff or your therapist
• a pattern of failure to comply with your counselor’s recommendations that seriously impairs our ability to assist your recovery/growth
• more than two missed appointments without acceptable notice
• more than two unpaid sessions without an approved payment agreement
• failure to comply with terms of payment agreement
You may be readmitted to service, once terminated for any of the above reasons, by bringing your account current.

PAYMENT FOR SERVICES:
Most health insurances cover some of our charges. Fees are due and payable at the time of service. In order to better serve our community, ACCESS has adjusted our sliding scale. This is made possible by the generous contributions from the Coastal Bend Foundation, United Way, Castaways, and others after Hurricane Harvey. It is your responsibility to inform receptionist about any changes affecting your amount or method of payment, address and/or phone number. Any changes made are effective as of the date of the agency’s notification and cannot be backdated.

*Other insurances may be accepted as well, but possibly require pre-authorization for out-of-network provider.
We do NOT accept the following insurances at this time but anyone is eligible to utilize the sliding scale:

Payment arrangements will be discussed at time of appointment and a sliding fee scale is available, based on family income.
*All insurance is subject to pre-authorization and limits of your particular plan as well as designated medical necessity. You will be advised of your plan benefits the day of your first visit.
